Summer Program Support
Students enjoyed a summer of learning and adventure through Four Valleys Summer Camps. Each weekly camp has a different natural history and/or outdoor focus. Focus areas of Adventure Camps included: Wilderness Survival, Girdwood Roots & Trails, Tides & Ecology, Adventures with Science: Elements and Weather, Fossils, and Geology, Art in the Park, and Rivers & Hydrology.
Program support funds were used to supplement program development, pre-class planning, and program operations. FVCS focuses entirely on providing programs for local youth of Girdwood, Bird, Indian, and Portage.
All programs are experiential education based and combine active learning with hands-on learning experiences. Programs take place outside, rain or shine. Programs focused on the local flora and fauna of the KMTA area and explored the different ecological systems in Girdwood and Portage specifically. They hope to instill lifelong stewardship and a deep understanding of the ecological diversity that makes up the backyards of our local children. Each intensive program is built on the philosophy of place-based education.
