Girdwood Nordic Ski Club created and installed a historical sign along the 5k loop in Girdwood giving the history of the 1969 Junior National Ski Race and the 10k trail that was constructed for the race and maintained in Girdwood for a decade. This trail was the first recreational-purpose trail built in Girdwood and helped bring the momentum of tourism and ski racing to Alaska.
